We're so excited to be coming to your home soon. This guide covers everything you need to know to feel ready and relaxed on the day of your session. The short version? You don't need to do much. That's the whole point of lifestyle newborn photography — we come to you and we capture your family exactly as it is right now.

LIGHT & SPACE

Before your session, take a quick walk through your home and think about your brightest rooms. Natural light is everything in lifestyle photography, and the best spots are usually ones you already love — a nursery with a big window, your master bedroom in the morning light, a living room with southern or eastern exposure.

  • Nurseries, master bedrooms, and living rooms are the most popular choice.
  • Think about any unique features of your home or the spots that you love — a window seat, a porch, a beautifully made bed
  • Don't worry about tidying perfectly — a lived-in home always photographs more authentically and we can shift around as we go if we need to.

Once we arrive, we'll take a quick look at the spaces you'd like photographed and decide where to start.

what to wear

Clothing can make or break a gallery. The goal is for your family to feel like you — just a slightly more coordinated version. Stick to tones that won't compete with your home or with each other.

  • Neutrals and muted tones photograph best — creams, taupes, soft grays, dusty blues, warm whites.
  • An outfit for baby that allows for hands and feet to peek out allows us to get more detail shots.
  • Avoid bold logos, graphic prints, or bright colors that draw the eye away from faces.
  • Gentle textures (linen, knit, cotton) add warmth and dimension without distraction.
  • Decide ahead of time: socks or bare feet and make it consistent between family members — it's a small detail that makes a big visual difference.

What to Expect on the Day

Our in-home lifestyle newborn session includes two photographers — which means we capture more, miss less, and move efficiently without feeling rushed. For posed shots, look toward Elizabeth's camera unless we tell you otherwise.

  • We'll guide you into natural positions — no stiff posing, just gentle direction to incorporate natural interactions to capture the moments.
  • If you're breastfeeding and would like that moment captured, let us know and we can decide how to document it in a way that makes you most comfortable.
  • We bring a Moses basket and soft neutral blankets for solo baby shots. We also bring back-up lighting to use as needed to enhance or add lighting into your space.
  • Have any special items ready — handmade blankets, name signs, heirlooms — and let us know when we arrive so we can make the time and space to incorporate them.
  • Sessions typically run 60-90 minutes but we don't watch the clock. Our sessions are unhurried by design. Feeding breaks for baby and snack breaks for siblings are never a problem — we stay until we have everything we need.
